St. Petersburg Polytechnic University at the Forum of Rectors of Leading Russian and Iranian Universities

Tehran University hosted the 7th Forum of university rectors of the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran, which was attended by more than 50 heads of universities, representatives of scientific organizations and government agencies of the two countries. Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) was represented by Viktor Barskov, Director of the Institute of Energy, and Mehdi Basati Panah, Associate Professor of the Institute of Energy of SPbPU, and Shahid Beheshti, a graduate of Iranian University and SPbPU.
The forum participants were welcomed by Iranian Science Minister Simoy Sarraf Hosein and Russian Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Konstantin Mogilevsky.
Strategies for the development of academic and scientific partnership were discussed at the forum. Viktor Barskov in his speech at the session entitled «Exact and natural-technical sciences, agriculture» highlighted priority areas for cooperation: joint research in the field of sustainable energy, renewable energy and energy efficiency, exchange programs for students and teachers, creation of joint programs and specialized courses, organization of summer and winter schools on innovative technologies.
In discussions with the forum participants, Mehdi Basati Panah suggested expanding the format of the event to «BRICS+» to involve universities from other developing countries. This, in his opinion, would strengthen the international exchange of knowledge and open up new opportunities for joint projects.
Polytechnic University actively cooperates with 8 Iranian universities. Within the framework of the forum, SPbPU delegation held talks with Iranian universities including University of Tehran, Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) and Sharif University of Technology, where they discussed energy cooperation between Gas Turbine Institute and SPbPU Institute of Energy. The parties also expressed their intention to participate in joint research projects, development of specialized training courses for students and student exchange programs in the field of engineering.
The SPbPU delegation in talks with the Mayor of Tehran Dr. Zakani and members of the Energy Committee of the Iranian Parliament discussed potential areas of cooperation between SPbPU and municipal institutions of Tehran, with a focus on urban development and technological innovation.
The forum was an important step towards implementing new projects and expanding educational opportunities for students and researchers from both countries.
