Official start of the academic year at the Joint Polytechnic Institute in Xi’an: New Knowledge, Global Perspectives

240 freshmen who filled the auditorium were welcomed by high-ranking guests: President of the Institute Nyu Tongzhuang, Vice-Rector of Xi'an University of Technology for International Work Yen Li, and Head of the Department of International Educational Programs and Academic Mobility of SPbPU Olga Emelyanova.

Viktor Belko, Director of the Higher School of High Voltage Power Engineering of the Institute of Energy, addressed the students on the behalf of the teaching staff, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in education, especially in the light of the global challenges facing energy industry. “Choosing to study at our institute is an important and responsible decision,” said Belko, “You have decided to pursue an education that combines the best traditions of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and Xi'an University of Technology.”

Following the guests' speeches, the students of the Chinese university presented a bright cultural program including songs and dances reflecting the traditions and culture of the PRC and Russia.

The event closed with a joint commemorative photo, symbolizing the beginning of a new stage in the life of the Joint Polytechnic Institute.

At present, 90 freshmen and 85 second-year students are enrolled in the Automation in Electric Power Engineering program, implemented by professors from both universities. Since the opening of the Institute, lectures for Chinese students have been given by: Associate Professor Stanislav Popov, Associate Professor Sergey Magazinov and Senior Lecturer Nadezhda Andreeva.

The Joint Polytechnic Institute is becoming a vivid example of successful international cooperation in the field of education, contributing to the training of highly qualified specialists for the global energy industry.
