IAEA and ROSATOM visit to the Institute of Energy

June 20, representatives of the IAEA and ROSATOM visited IE to discuss educational and scientific projects, as well as the prospects of international master's degree programs in nuclear engineering .

Director of the IE, Yuri PETRENYA, Director of the Graduate School of Power Engineering,  Alena ALESHINA and Deputy Director for International Activities, Ekaterina SOKOLOVA with representatives of the International Office of Politech welcomed the delegation and discussed common goals in the development of educational programs. Zhang Jing, Head of Section of the IAEA Technical Cooperation Department, expressed interest in the Master's degree programs, which provide training from international experts, laboratory work on the Virtual NPP Power Unit simulator, practical training and participation in scientific and practical conferences. He emphasized that an important part of the success of such programs are the students themselves, who come from developing countries with long-term plans for nuclear industry development, NPP construction and research.

It is not the first time that cooperation between the IAEA and the IE has led to positive results - Turkish graduates of the Institute have won Marie Sklodowska-Curie scholarships from IAEA and have also had internships there. Valery KAREZIN, Director of ROSATOM's Project Office for Education Development and International Cooperation, agreed with his colleagues that it is necessary to reach new levels of cooperation in education and training of specialists, as well as in supporting them in project and scientific activities.

IE Director, Yuri Petrenya, highlighted the importance of joint work with specialized organizations around the world and cooperation in training specialists for nuclear industry.
