On April 16, students of HSPE IE and IMMiT visited the Regional Center "ASCON-North-West" during the All-Russian action "Week without turnstiles" among production sites and companies.
ASCON is a Russian developer of engineering software since 1989. Both students and instructors of engineering specialties are familiar with the company's products. These are design and modeling systems: KOMPAS-3D, VERTICAL, LOTSMAN:PLM and others. The Regional Center "ASCON-North-West" is engaged in implementation of ASCON software solutions at the enterprises of St. Petersburg and the whole North-West Federal Region. Nikita Erokhin, the leading manager of the CAD solutions department, told the students about the possibilities and application of ASCON products, including the system of automated management of custom production "GOLFSTREAM". The system responds to the order, communicates with the warehouse, analyzing planned and actual performance, thus improving the process of preparation and facilitating the work of engineers.
After getting acquainted with the company and its activities, Nadezhda Ulanovskaya, Recruitment and Development Manager, conducted a Career Session: opportunities for students and graduates. She presented the company's structure from the inside: from professional opportunities and support for specialists to active team-building and teamwork of specialists. Polytechnics were among the success stories: one of the graduates is now working as a technical support and training engineer at ASCON NW.
The profession of an engineer sometimes starts from the school, as Ekaterina Panina, manager for work with educational institutions, told us. ASCON products are actively used in schools and universities. Schoolchildren and students participate in competitions from the company in design and modeling of technological, transportation and construction projects. This is another opportunity to show their abilities and skills for future employment.
Ilya Yanson, the head of the Regional Center of "ASCON-North-West" LLC, a graduate of the Power Engineering Faculty of Politech in the field of compressor engineering, joined the meeting with the students of Politech. He had a personal conversation with the students, as well as representatives of IE: Alexey Yablokov, senior lecturer of HSPE and Arseniy Kluyev, assistant of HSPE. The head of RC emphasized that the company is open to feedback: this is the basis for the structure and development of products. Suggestions for improvement of certain functions can always be sent for consideration and further discussed directly with the company representatives. More than 80% of employees are engineers of different specialties, who can speak "the same language" with customers and speed up processes.
KOMPAS-3D in action - a live demonstration of complex models was conducted by Alexey Demidov, a specialist of the Technical Solutions Department. The students were introduced to the mode of component separation, "circuit explosion" and cross-section of various models: on the screen it was possible to examine in detail a trolleybus, an airplane and even the bridge of an electric guitar.
