On Cosmonautics Day, 3rd year students of the Hydraulic Machinery Sector of the Higher School of Power Engineering visited JSC "Petersburg Tractor Plant".
JSC "Petersburg Tractor Plant" is a part of the group of companies PJSC "Kirov Plant" and is one of the oldest machine-building enterprises in Russia with more than 220 years of history. The Kirov Plant is the ancestor of national tractor building: the first tractors were manufactured in 1924, and in 2024 marks the 100th anniversary of this significant event.
The first stop of the excursion was the newly rebuilt 225 shop for the production of gearboxes. The excursion guide showed all 9 production areas of the shop equipped with 120 units of modern processing equipment, told about the features of the quality management system, for example, about the accurate accounting, where the current state of the equipment is displayed online. The shop is designed to employ 350 people and the maximum possible output is 6500 boxes per month.

The next shop No. 280 is the conveyor assembly shop for KIROVETS tractors. The conveyor consists of 13 consecutive stations, and from the last one the finished tractor moves off on its own. One cycle of movement between the posts is 40 minutes. In order to keep the production of tractors going, all the components necessary for assembly must be available in the vicinity: the company has implemented and widely uses the 5S system - a lean production system that ensures rationalization of the workplace.
