From June 16 to 25, Politech hosted an educational intensive for schoolchildren, organized by the Applicants' Center. The participants of the Intensive were 9th-10th grade students from schools in St. Petersburg, Moscow and other Russian cities. The Institute of Energy presented two tracks: "Wings of Politech" and "Energovibe: How to Tame Electric Current and Not Burn Out"

Participants of the Wings of Politech track from the Higher School of Power Engineering staff designed aerodynamic profiles and manufactured their prototypes.

Andrei Shirokikh and Nikita Izbyakov, students and employees of HSPE, conducted theoretical and practical design classes and then supervised the process of prototype creation and testing. Youngsters also visited the enterprise of JSC "ODK-Klimov".

- The Summer School participants covered the whole spectrum of an engineer's work: design and parameterization of a 3D model, numerical calculation in the program and physical testing. During the course kids were enthusiastic and approached the work with interest, despite the fact that they worked for more than a week without a break! I enjoyed working with them, as they grasped everything on the fly and asked questions to better understand the material and get a deeper understanding of the topic, - said Nikita Izbyakov.

After printing on the 3D printer, the participants went to the Laboratory of Turbine Engineering named after I.I. Kirillov to test their "wings" for strength: several teams managed to put a heavy load before the wing eventually broke. And some samples withstood the tests.

At "Energovibe: How to Tame Electric Current and Not Burn Out" the pupils had to develop a scheme of electricity supply for a cottage.

The teams chose very different approaches, which pleasantly surprised the jury. Teachers of the Higher School of Electric Power Systems gave lectures and prepared the children to develop and calculate the supply scheme on their own. As part of the intensives, the students also visited Rosseti Lenenergo.

- The participants of the Summer School turned out to be very focused and hardworking. The discovery was the team that proposed a project of power supply of a cottage with a large recreation area (billiard room, table tennis area, glazed terrace) on the second floor. In the first days of work on the case they were a little behind, but on the last day they focused on the project, found and corrected errors. The gold prize winner was the project of power supply of a one-storey cottage with a balanced climatic environment - the case was characterized by high quality of the developed technical solution. The third place was awarded to the project of power supply of a cottage for a family of three in the city of Sochi. I hope that the Energy Summer School will become a good tradition for us," Elena Ivanova, Associate Professor of HSEPS, shared her impressions.
