Research group "Power cables"

Cable lines are the core of the Russian energy system. Their modernization is a key factor in improving the reliability and efficiency of power supply. This requires a solid scientific and experimental base. The group of specialists working in the field of cable lines is engaged in research in the following areas:

  • Numerical methods for calculating long-term current loads for various operating conditions
  •  Numerical methods of calculation of electrothermal fields of cable structures
  • Calculation and selection of reinforced insulation of cable couplings
  • Development of power cable designs
  •  Development of organization standards
  • Operational experience reviews
  • The team includes specialists with extensive experience in industrial frequency power cables, including various types of insulation, cable couplings, optical and electrical communication cables. The team also has experience in developing new designs for power cables, such as developing new designs for forced-cooled, paper-plastic insulated power cables and cables for electric centrifugal pump installations.

Main directions of research

  • Development of new cable designs for power supply of electric centrifugal pump units (ECPU)
  • Development of new generation cable couplings, modernization of end and connection couplings of medium and high voltage class.
  • Study of cable insulation degradation processes.
  • Development of cable line designs with forced internal cooling.
  • Development of the methodology for determining the place of cable lines damage laid in pipes.
  • Methodology of determining the long-term permissible current load and emergency permissible current load.
  • Testing of cable lines insulation
